Buffalo Bills give up on LB Maybin by waiving him

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills have run out of patience in waiting for Aaron Maybin to develop. They waived the linebacker two years after selecting him in the first round.

The move was announced in a one-sentence e-mail issued by the team on Monday afternoon, hours before the Bills were scheduled to hold a night practice at their training camp facility.

Selected 11th overall in the 2009 draft out of Penn State, Maybin has proven to be a bust, and had earned the derogatory nickname of “Maybe” by team fans. Drafted for his pass-rushing potential, Maybin failed to register a sack in 27 career games, none of them as a starter.

The move didn’t come as a surprise after coach Chan Gailey in January described Maybin’s status as “tenuous.”
