Longview man drowns in Columbia River

Longview, Wash – Cowlitz 911 received a call about 1:45p.m. this afternoon to the report of a man who had entered the Columbia River at Willow Grove Park and was missing and presumed drowned. The man had seen his daughter and another child (about 6yrs of age)playing in the water who appeared to be having trouble swimming. He went in to the water to help them and after doing this, he disappeared. Emergency Responders from Cowlitz Dive Rescue, Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue, Castle Rock Fire, and the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office responded. A deputy was on scene by 2:01 p.m. and on a Boat (from the Army corp of engineers working in the area) by 2:15 p.m. searching the area. Divers enter the water at 2:30 p.m. and located the victim, deceased, at about 3:00 p.m. Neither the victim, or the children were wearing Life Vests.

The victim, is Alejandro Vicente-Lopez, 30yrs, Longview Residence.

The death has been ruled a Fresh water Drowning by Cowlitz Coroner Tim Davidson.
