PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Portland police have accused a 41-year-old man of kidnapping his former girlfriend and setting a fire in her apartment.
The police say they went to the woman's place in southeast Portland Sunday night to investigate reports of threats.
They said an officer saw Jeffrey Wayne Brown drag the woman into a bedroom and close the door. But, the police say, the woman escaped within a few minutes, and officers then saw smoke seeping out from under the door.
The police say they forced their way in, arrested Brown and put out the fire.
He is to appear in court Monday on kidnapping, arson and other charges.
