Australian 'collar bomb' suspect ordered held

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A federal judge has ordered a man sought by Australian authorities for allegedly attaching a fake bomb to a teenager's neck in an extortion ploy to be detained.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Dave Whalin on Tuesday ordered 50-year-old Paul "Doug" Peters detained pending an extradition hearing set for Oct. 14 in Louisville. He was shackled at the wrists and ankles.

Peters was arrested Monday by the FBI at the home of his ex-wife in a Louisville suburb.
