Fourth Plain Village — A summer playground program at Evergreen Park that was at risk of closing earlier this year due to a lack of funding got a visit from Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt on Aug. 10. The mayor championed the project as an important part of the revitalization of the Fourth Plain Corridor. The program, which began June 27 and ran through Aug. 12, was at full capacity with 50 children. There was a loud and resounding “Yes!” from the kids when the mayor asked if they had fun this summer at the program. The playground program is part of a plan to make the park a safe and friendly place for children and their families. The program was able to continue this summer thanks to donations from Comcast, Veolia Water and United Way of the Columbia-Willamette.
