CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox placed catcher A.J. Pierzynski on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a fractured left wrist.
Pierzynski was hit by a pitch in the third inning Friday night and removed himself from the game after the fourth. Initial X-rays were negative.
This is the first career trip to the DL for Pierzynski, who leads American League catchers in batting average, games played and innings caught.
He and Jason Kendall are the only active catchers with at least 1,000 innings caught in each of the last nine seasons.
