ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Jordyn Wieber wasn’t one of those kids doing flips around the house as soon as she could walk or rivaling the Tasmanian Devil with her boundless energy.

She did, however, have muscles. Perfectly defined calves that helped her stand storklike while her parents dressed her instead of hanging on for dear life like most kids. Little biceps that had the other parents at dance class asking what the 3-year-old was doing.

Those muscles, combined with a laser intensity in the gym, have Wieber on the fast track for stardom ahead of next summer’s London Olympics.

The 16-year-old from DeWitt, Mich., has already beaten world champion Aliya Mustafina, at the American Cup in March, and now is favored to win her first senior title at this week’s U.S. gymnastics championships.
