LEAVENWORTH, Wash. (AP) — State highway officials are reopening Highway 2 at Tumwater Canyon at 8 p.m. Friday as firefighters continue to control a wildfire burning about 230 acres about six miles northwest of Leavenworth.
The fire is burning grass, shrubs and trees. No structures are threatened.
U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Susan Peterson said Friday night the wildfire was about 25 percent contained. She says the fire burning closest to the highway is contained, but the wildfire is growing in other areas. She says the fire is active to the north and east of the highway.
The Washington Department of Transportation advises motorists to use extreme caution and not to stop on the highway or on the shoulder.
