PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Records show that Republican congressional candidate Rob Cornilles has missed voting in nine of the 27 elections held since 1998.
Cornilles is running for the seat in northwest Oregon vacated by Democrat David Wu.
Cornilles tells The Oregonian newspaper (http://bit.ly/fs9V5R ) he’s missed elections because of business travel, or returned with not enough study time to cast what he calls an “educated ballot.” He says he hasn’t missed an election since he got active politically in recent years.
Washington County records show Cornilles missed statewide primary elections in 2000 and 2006 as well as seven local elections from 1999 to 2009.
Records show his three potential Democratic rivals haven’t missed voting over similar periods.
