PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Zoo has announced the names of the three newest members of a species of medium-sized cat native to Africa, Southwest Asia and the Arabian Peninsula.

The three caracal kittens, named Mkuze (mih-KOO’-zee), Binti (BIN-tee) and Aziza (a-ZEE-za), were born at the zoo in June.

They are part of the Predators of the Serengeti exhibit at the zoo. Their father, Cricket, was brought to the zoo this winter. Their mother, Peggy, was brought to the zoo in 2009.

A zookeeper says the kittens are healthy and making use of their scratching post.

Caracals can live up to 17 years in captivity.
