TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama receiver DeAndrew White has caught the eye of coaches and teammates.
Now, the redshirt freshman is hoping to emerge as a candidate to replace first-round NFL draft pick Julio Jones as the Crimson Tide’s go-to receiver.
Coach Nick Saban says “it’s a real good indicator when his name keeps coming up that he’s progressing very well.” Saban says the former high school track star is one of the team’s most difficult receivers to cover.
White has experience in pressure-packed situations. His late touchdown catch helped North Shore High School in Houston to a state record 73rd consecutive regular-season win.
Alabama has more experienced candidates to fill Jones’ role, such as Marquis Maze and Darius Hanks. But Hanks has to sit out the first two games under the NCAA participation rule.
