PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — A government official says suspected militants have ambushed a Pakistani security convoy in a tribal region along the Afghan border, killing two soldiers and wounding eight.

Iqal Khan says the attackers shot at the troops in the Aka Khel area of Khyber tribal region, which has witnessed Taliban activity in recent years.

It was not immediately clear if there were any militant casualties in Saturday’s incident.

The Pakistani army has carried out targeted operations against militant groups in Khyber, but the insurgents often regroup. On Friday, a suicide bomber blew himself up at a mosque in Jamrud area of the tribal region, killing 48 worshippers.
