Authorities said a 45-year-old Camas man jumped off a boat in the Columbia River and drowned about 1 p.m. Sunday.
Officials said the boat was near Tomahawk Island on the Oregon side of the river in the Jantzen Beach area.
Teams from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Portland Fire Department, Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Vancouver Fire Department were all on the scene, including at least five divers.
Vancouver fire brought its boat, shuttled a dive team to the scene and searched shallow water with sonar equipment.
At The Columbian’s press time, the man’s body had not been recovered.
Multnomah County sheriff’s Lt. Derrick Peterson said the man’s name would not be released Sunday. He said the search for the body would continue Monday.
