ATLANTA (AP) -- Peter Moylan will move closer to his return from back surgery on Monday when the Atlanta Braves pitcher begins an injury rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett.
Moylan was placed on disabled list on April 16 and had surgery on May 17 to repair a bulging disk in his lower back. He could return to the Braves around Sept. 1, giving the team another key right-hander at the back of the bullpen.
"That's a big piece," manager Fredi Gonzalez said Sunday when asked about his hopes for having Moylan back for the final month of the regular season and playoffs.
Moylan, from Australia, appeared in at least 80 games for Atlanta in 2007, 2009 and 2010. He has 18 wins, 13 saves and a 2.61 ERA in six seasons.
