YAMHILL, Ore. (AP) — An 80-year-old man has died from his injuries after firefighters found him lying in a burning field in the Willamette Valley Saturday.

The Yamhill County sheriff’s office on Sunday identified the man as Streeter Luke Roy, of Carlton.

Sheriff Jack Crabtree says it appeared Roy was using a torch to inject fire into gopher holes when he became engulfed in flames. Roy farmed the land owned by his neighbor.

Firefighters found him when they responded to a report of smoke in a field. Every fire department in Yamhill and Washington counties responded to the four-alarm fire and had it under control Saturday afternoon.

Roy was taken to Legacy Emmanuel Medical Center in Portland where he later died..
