Nationals delay opening gates after quake

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Washington Nationals have delayed opening the gates before their game against the Arizona Diamondbacks because of the earthquake that rattled the East Coast.

Team officials were checking the stadium for damage before letting fans in Tuesday night. There was no immediate word on whether the game might be delayed from its 7:05 p.m. start.

Parts of the White House, Capitol and Pentagon were evacuated after the magnitude-5.8 quake, which was centered 40 miles northwest of Richmond, Va.
