A 19-year-old Vancouver man lost control of his car late Monday and struck a tree off state Highway 500 in the Proebstel area east of Orchards and north of Camas.
The driver, Benjamin James Root of Vancouver, had “severe head injuries,” according to a release from the Washington State Patrol.
He was listed in serious condition Tuesday night and was in intensive care at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said.
Root was driving west near Milepost 10 when he lost control of his 1995 Honda Accord, crossed the center line, left the road and ran into a tree, the bulletin said.
The accident was caused by speeding, according to the WSP. No citation was issued.
