SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Amazon.com is expanding its recently launched local deals site to New York and other parts of the country. The online retailer hopes discount-happy consumers will flock to its offerings as they have to those from Groupon.
Amazon is announcing the arrival of AmazonLocal deals in five New York locations: Manhattan’s Upper East and Upper West Sides, Downtown and Midtown neighborhoods, and in Brooklyn. AmazonLocal will also come to Charlotte, N.C., Austin, Texas and several more places.
With the additions, AmazonLocal will be operating in 30 locations in 10 states, all within about three months of its June launch in Boise, Idaho. Its reach is still a fraction the size of major players like Groupon and LivingSocial. Amazon has an investment in LivingSocial.
