A 20-year-old Battle Ground man lost control of his car early Wednesday and slammed into a median on Padden Parkway, near Interstate 205, authorities said.

Aleksandr Shevchenko was driving a 2003 Subaru Impreza northbound on the I-205 ramp to eastbound Padden Parkway around 1 a.m. When Shevchenko approached a curve in the road, he lost control, slid across Padden Parkway and ran into the median barrier, according to a release from the Washington State Patrol.

Shevchenko complained of wrist pain and was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. His passenger, David Vtyurin, 18, of La Center had a bloody nose and was also transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, the state patrol said. Both men were treated and released.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the accident, according to the state patrol.

The case was still under investigation Wednesday afternoon. Charges are pending the results of toxicology tests, state patrol Trooper Ryan Tanner said.
