LOS ANGELES (AP) — Federal prosecutors say attorneys for Lance Armstrong have no right to see a court filing that offers “extensive details” about a grand jury investigation of the cyclist and are asking a judge to keep it sealed.
The filing states that even filing a redacted version of their brief responding to complaints of leaks in the investigation would allow Armstrong’s attorneys to speculate about the grand jury’s work.
Armstrong’s attorneys filed a motion in July, claiming information from the grand jury inquiry leaked to reporters has sullied the reputation of the seven-time Tour de France winner.
Prosecutors responded to the allegations on Monday, but did not provide Armstrong’s attorneys with a copy, stating they did not want to violate rules about the secrecy of the investigation. Armstrong’s attorneys want the filing unsealed.
