Esther Short — The gardens around the Slocum House got a face-lift on July 22 thanks to the friends and family of New Hope Foursquare Church. Volunteers teamed up with Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation AmeriCorps volunteer coordinator, Nastassja Pace, to weed and revitalize the gardens around the historic theater in Esther Short Park. Pastor Graham Myhre and members of the church brought tools, gloves and positive, hard-working attitudes. Within two hours, “the garden looked amazing and really spruced up the whole Slocum House,” said Slocum House vice president and house manager Rebecca Kramer.
