The ashes of a Salem woman taken in a burglary that occurred shortly after 4:00 PM Tuesday in the 2400 block of Trade St SE were recovered today when Salem Police detectives served a search warrant on a white 1986 Ford Pickup. The pickup had been impounded by police Tuesday shortly after 5:00 PM in the 1900 block of West Nob Hill St SE at the scene of another burglary.

An alert neighbor on West Knob Hill St SE called police after observing the pickup park and the driver get into a parked vehicle. The suspect subsequently entered an attached garage and started to gather some items before fleeing on foot, leaving the truck behind. Responding officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect. The truck was impounded pursuant to the investigation.

These crimes remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Salem Police detectives at (503)588-6050. In both of these crimes, unlocked doors made it easier for the thief to get to property. Residents are reminded to lock their doors to prevent uninvited guests.
