CORDOBA, Spain (AP) — Liquigas carried Peter Sagan to the fifth-stage victory at the Spanish Vuelta, while French cyclist Sylvain Chavanel kept the overall leader’s red jersey for a third straight day.

Sagan was among four Liquigas riders barreling toward the finish, and the Slovakian moved up the inside to sweep over the line ahead of Pablo Lastras of Movistar, who came around the outside of the group to finish second on Thursday.

Sagan won the 120-mile stage in 4 hours, 38 minutes, 22 seconds. The next three spots after Lastras were occupied by Liquigas, including defending champion Vincenzo Nibali, who moved within 16 seconds of Chavanel with a fourth-place finish.

Chavanel leads Daniel Moreno of Spain by 15 seconds with an overall time of 22:41:13.
