A disguised robber held up the First Independent Bank in the McLoughlin Heights area on Friday afternoon and escaped despite a major police effort to find him.

The bank, located at 6501 E. Mill Plain Blvd., was robbed just before 2 p.m. Several police officers rushed to the scene, took positions around the area and searched it with a tracking dog.

The robber was described as a heavyset white male, 5 feet 5 inches tall. He wore latex gloves, a light-blue, long-sleeve button-up shirt, dark glasses, tan pants, a wig and a fake mustache. He carried a blue shoulder bag, police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said. He may have worn a black watch on his left wrist.

No weapon was seen and the suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of money, Kapp said.
