THE FIRST RESURRECTION MEETING will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 9 at Community A.M.E. Zion Church, 3605 E. 13th St. The Resurrection Substance Abuse Program was created in 1993 at Allen Temple C.M.E. out of the need to address the epidemic of drug abuse in the community at large. OPEN HOUSE MINISTRIES will have a free community block party and barbecue, 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 15, at 900 W. 12th St. The family shelter is partnering with the Rotary Club of Greater Clark County and other organizations to raise awareness of homelessness. The Neverclaim band will play from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by Beat Frequency at 6 to 7 p.m. Open House Ministries is a 107-bed, privately funded, faith-based shelter for homeless families in the community. * Lucy, 360-737-0300.
