CARSON, Calif. (AP) — Alvaro Saborio scored in the 10th minute and Real Salt Lake made it stand up despite playing a man down for 67 minutes in a 1-0 victory over Chivas USA on Saturday night.

The Costa Rican swooped in to score after a failed pass back by Ante Jazic to defender David Junior.

Salt Lake commanded the match until the 23rd minute, when Chivas USA midfielder Nick LaBrocca stole a pass and ran 20 yards on a breakaway. Before he entered the box, he was brought down by Nat Borchers, who was given a red card.

Despite the advantage, Chivas USA struggled to create scoring opportunities and break through the feisty Salt Lake defense. Chivas USA also lost Heath Pearce to injury in the 61st minute after he played in every minute this season.
