FSU’s Fisher sets starting units for season debut

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — There are a couple of surprises in sixth-ranked Florida State’s lineup going into Saturday’s opener against Louisiana-Monroe.

Senior Mike Harris gets the starting nod at cornerback over redshirt sophomore Xavier Rhodes while senior Jermaine Thomas wasn’t even listed as the third-team tailback. Thomas missed much of fall camp with migraine headaches, but has 1,804 career rushing yards.

Coach Jimbo Fisher says Chris Thompson or Ty Jones will start at tailback with freshman Devonta Freeman running third team.

Rhodes won the Atlantic Coast Conference’s defensive rookie of the year honors last season when he and Harris each had four interceptions.

Fisher cautioned the media Monday not to make too much out of his initial depth chart he believes that the Seminoles have more than just one starter at several positions.
