SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — San Jose State coach Mike MacIntyre remembers the team bus maneuvering through a sea of fans in last season’s opener at Alabama and the dazed looks on his players’ faces.

The game was over before they even arrived.

Overwhelmed by the moment against a program with superior talent, the Spartans were trounced 48-3. Now, MacIntyre is eager to show his team has learned from that experience.

San Jose State will travel 21 miles north to face seventh-ranked Stanford on Saturday, getting the first crack at Heisman Trophy favorite Andrew Luck. The Spartans have scored upsets in the South Bay rivalry as recently as 2006, and they’ll be a heavy underdog once again in the program’s biggest game of the season.
