NEW YORK (AP) — Hurricane Irene put a damper on one small part of the U.S. Open — a performance by singer Taio Cruz.

Cruz was unable to make it to New York for Monday’s opening-night ceremony. The other scheduled musical act, Greyson Chance, was on hand to sing the national anthem.

Tony Bennett wasn’t missing his birthday celebration at Flushing Meadows. A big tennis fan, the singer was being honored after turning 85 earlier this month.

The hurricane caused only minimal changes to the Open’s schedule Monday, with a two-hour delay to the start of play at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
