PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Fares go up Thursday for TriMet train and bus commuters in Portland.
It's the fourth September in five years with fare increases on Oregon's largest transit system.
The Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/n0J4X0 ) TriMet is also cracking down on fare cheats. Between July 20 and August 15 the agency handed out nearly 2,000 citations to people trying to ride for free. The citation carries a $175 fine.
