Portland grocery founder badly hurt in crash

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police say the 66-year-old founder of an upscale Portland grocery company is in critical condition after a car crossed the center line and crashed head-on into his motorcycle.

The police identified John Zupan of Zupan’s Markets on Tuesday morning. The accident happened Monday night.

Police say the driver of a 1998 Honda Civic was 32-year-old Edy Porfirio Reynoso-Ramirez, who was booked on charges that included assault and driving under the influence.

A police report said he was speeding, driving erratically and passing other vehicles before colliding with Zupan’s 2009 BMW motorcycle on Marine Drive in north Portland.

The Zupan’s Website lists three stores with a fourth due to open later this year.
