COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M can’t wait to get out of the Big 12 Conference. SMU would like nothing more than to join the league.

As these teams prepare to open the season against each other on Sunday, conference realignment is being talked about as much as the matchups on the field.

SMU, which currently plays in Conference USA, has been the only school to publicly campaign for an invite into the Big 12 if they Aggies leave. Athletics director Steve Orsini says SMU’s goal is to join a BCS conference and the Big 12 would make sense for the Mustangs.

Texas A&M President R. Bowen Loftin has said the Aggies are exploring their options and are interested in the Southeastern Conference to achieve greater visibility and add additional revenue.
