UConn postpones opener because of Irene
Tuesday, August 30, 2011
STORRS, Conn. (AP) -- The University of Connecticut has postponed its season opening game against Fordham because the stadium is being used as distribution center for relief supplies for victims of Tropical Storm Irene.
The teams had been scheduled to play Thursday night at Rentschler Field in East Hartford.
UConn athletics spokesman Kyle Muncy said Tuesday that no decisions have been made about when and where the game will be made up.
Connecticut National Guard troops at the stadium have been unloading food and water from delivery trucks and loading the items back into trucks bound for shelters across the state.
