TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — The state Board of Regents has approved a five-year contract for new Arizona football coach Rich Rodriguez.
The move Thursday came nine days after Rodriguez agreed to the parameters of the deal with Athletic Director Greg Byrne.
Rodriguez’s five-year deal starts at $1.45 million per year in base pay and ends at $1.8 million with annual incentives for academic and athletic performance, attendance spikes and coach of the year awards. He will receive $300,000 per year from Nike.
The Arizona Daily Star (http://bit.ly/vtkxAj) says Rodriguez could owe the university up to $100,000 if he violates NCAA or Pac-12 rules.
