St. Francis (NY) beats Mount St. Mary’s 64-54

EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) — Ben Mockford scored 17 points and Jalen Cannon added 10 points and nine rebounds to lead St. Francis (N.Y.) past Mount St. Mary’s 64-54 on Thursday night in the Northeast Conference opener for both teams.

Mockford shot 44 percent (7 for 16) from the field and made five 3-pointers in the win.

St. Francis (2-4, 1-0) led 14-13 with 11:06 remaining in the first half before using a 14-6 run to take a 28-19 lead into halftime. Mockford opened the second half with a jumper to give St. Francis an 11-point lead, 30-19.

Mount St. Mary’s (1-5, 0-1) cut the lead to seven, 42-35, with 11:21 left, but the Terriers reeled off another run, this time 21-12, to take a 64-47 lead with 2 minutes to play.

Kelvin Parker led Mount St. Mary’s with 16 points and Julian Norfleet and Raven Barber each chipped in with 11.
