Clark County sheriff’s deputies are looking for a man who fired a gun while robbing a Hazel Dell couple Friday evening.

The robbery was reported just after 7 p.m. at 103 N.E. 83rd St., in a complex just west of Hazel Dell Avenue in the West Hazel Dell neighborhood.

According to deputies, the residents had just arrived home in their car when a man accosted them in their driveway. After stealing some cash from the woman’s purse, he handed it back and fled on foot, according to radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

A shot was fired at the victims during the robbery, deputies said. There was no report of anyone being struck.

Deputies and four police dogs converged on the neighborhood to search for the robber, who was last seen headed out of the driveway. The initial search was unsuccessful.

The robber is believed to be a white male, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 or 190 pounds. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt and jacket.

He is apparently armed with a handgun.
