Georgia Southern defeats Appalachian State 73-62

STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) — Eric Ferguson scored 13 of his 15 points in a dominating first half by Georgia Southern, which defeated Appalachian State 73-62 on Saturday night.

After Appalachian State tied it at 2-2, the Eagles (3-4, 2-0 Southern Conference) took over, using a 13-1 run, in which they went 3 of 3 from behind the arc, to lead 15-3 with 14:42 to play. Georgia Southern stretched its lead to 20, 45-25, at halftime.

The Eagles shot 50 percent in the first half (17 of 34), and scored 14 points off nine Appalachian State turnovers, while outrebounding the Mountaineers 24-15.

Willie Powers scored all but one of his 11 points in the first half for Georgia Southern. Ben Drayton finished with 14 points and Tre Bussey had 12 for the Eagles.

Andre Williamson and Omar Carter scored 13 points each, and Isaac Butts added 11 for the Mountaineers (4-3, 1-2).
