Granger, Eastern Illinois stop Stony Brook 72-69

CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) — Jeremy Granger scored 25 points Saturday to lead Eastern Illinois past Stony Brook 72-69.

Granger went 9-for-18, including two 3-pointers, and hit all five free throws as the Panthers (5-2) won their second in a row.

Zavier Sanders added 16 points and Joey Miller 13 for the Panthers, who are 4-0 at home for the first time since 2001-02.

Al Rapier paced the Seawolves (2-4) with 19 points and nine rebounds. Bryan Dougher added 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and Tommy Brenton scored 11.

Eastern Illinois held a wide advantage at the foul line, sinking 16 of 21 to Stony Brook’s 4 of 5.

The Seawolves went ahead for the last time when Anthony Jackson’s 3-pointer gave them a 49-48 edge with 12:25 left.

Stony Brook later got within 70-69 on Brenton’s three-point play with 8 seconds left, but Miller made two free throws to clinch it.
