John Quincy Adams, sixth president of the United States, eloquently described the bond between Christmas and America. He said, “Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? That it forms a leading event in the progress of the Gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer’s mission upon earth? That it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity.”
The Founders took the precepts of Christ given to the world on Christmas day and incorporated them into America. We became “One Nation Under God” which has resulted in the world’s longest-lasting ongoing constitutional republic. The wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace that came to us on Christmas day became America’s source of blessing and peace. How marvelous to think that during the darkest days of winter America celebrates its favorite holiday. Christ is the light that brightens our darkest days. For God so loved the world he gave us his Son and of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. Happy Birthday, Jesus.
