Louisiana Tech holds off Louisiana-Monroe 73-71

MONROE, La. (AP) -- Raheem Appleby scored 19 points and Louisiana Tech held off Louisiana-Monroe 73-71 Saturday night to snap a three-game skid.
The Bulldogs (3-4), coming off a 72-69 overtime loss to Southeastern Louisiana, opened up a 25-15 lead, but the Warhawks (1-7) closed to 32-29 at halftime.
Louisiana-Monroe, which shot 62 percent from the field in beating Nicholls State 86-65 in its previous game, shot 54.5 percent (12 of 22) in the second half. The Warhawks pulled ahead at 45-44 on a Marcelis Hansberry jumper with 11:00 to play.
The Bulldogs regained the lead but couldn't pull away until Cordarious Johnson's 3-pointer sparked a 9-0 run and a 65-57 advantage.
Louisiana-Monroe got to 72-71 on two Charles Winborne free throws with 4 seconds left. After Romario Souza hit 1 of 2 free throws for the final margin, Hansberry missed a 3-pointer with 1 second remaining.
Fred Brown scored 17 to lead Louisiana-Monroe.
