PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Occupy Portland demonstrators have set up tents in a downtown park in defiance of police.
KGW-TV reports that demonstrators gathered Saturday in one portion of the park blocks — a series of contiguous grassy parks that stretches about a dozen blocks through Portland State University and the city’s downtown. There is a minimal police presence.
Demonstrators tell the television station that they are staying through the winter and have no plans to leave. Police, however, have warned that overnight stays at parks won’t be allowed.
Television broadcasts showed music being blasted from speakers, and a sign saying the park closes at 9 p.m.
