A 22-year-old man suffered serious burns early Saturday when the BMW he was driving struck a power pole.

Brian J. Hall suffered second-degree burns on both legs as a result of the 1:56 a.m. accident at the intersection of Grand and McLoughlin boulevards.

Vancouver police said the car, occupied by three adults, was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the pole and caught fire. Hall was trapped inside the vehicle briefly.

Police and firefighters arrived within three minutes to find that Hall had been rescued by a neighbor, James Bray, who broke the driver’s window and cut the seat belt to release Hall.

Hall was taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland for treatment.
