KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghan police say a second bomb has targeted Shiites marking a holy day, killing at least three people. That raises the total killed nationwide to at least 18.

The bomb was strapped to a bicycle when it exploded in the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif.

Balkh province Deputy Police Chief Abdul Raouf Taj says the bomb went off Tuesday as a convoy of Afghan Shiites was driving down the road, shouting in celebration of the Shiite Muslim holiday of Ashoura. The holiday marks the death of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.

The attack happened almost at the same time that a suicide bomber hit a Shiite mosque in Kabul, killing at least 15 people.
