Clark men finish 3-0 at Iowa hoop event

The Clark College men’s basketball team completed a successful run at the Emerson JUCO Challenge in Marshalltown, Iowa, on Sunday with a 76-72 win over Iowa Lakes.

Clark (5-0) won all three of its games at the event.

In Sunday’s win, Domonique Giles led the Penguins with 14 points, and Austin Bragg had 13. Also in double figures was Derek Owens with 11 points and a team-high six assists, and Lucas Swanson scored 10.

After trailing by two at the half, Clark would lead by as much as 10 points in the second half. As Iowa Lakes closed the gap, Clark iced the victory by making eight free throws in the final minute.

Clark next faces Lane at the Wenatchee Valley crossover on Dec. 16.

WOMEN: Walla Walla 84, Clark 66 — Deborah Simmers scored 22 points and had seven rebounds, and Chelsea Dyson 14 points for Clark (3-3) in the loss at Walla Walla.

Walla Walla (5-1) is ranked third in the first NWAACC women’s poll.

“I think we were playing on tired legs,” Clark coach Nancy Boone said. “We layed it all on the floor in Yakima.”

Clark was coming off a big 83-75 victory Saturday at No. 1-ranked Yakima Valley.
