Hamelin wins 1,000 at World Cup short track

NAGOYA, Japan (AP) -- Canada's Charles Hamelin won the men's 1,000 meters Sunday in a World Cup short-track speedskating event.
Hamelin won in 1 minute, 28.270 seconds -- .095 ahead of South Korea's Kwak Yoon-gy, who was followed by Canadian Michael Gilday.
In the women's competition, Li Jianrou led a Chinese sweep won with a time of 1:32.708 ahead of compatriots Lin Meng and Xiao Han.
Italy's Arianna Fontana won the women's 500 in 44.479, Japan's Yui Sakai was second followed by Martina Valcepina, also of Italy.
Canada's Jean Oliver won the men's 500 with a time of 41.491 followed by Chinese pair Liang Wenhao and Gong Qiuwen.
