WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — Relatives of a 14-year-old boy who drowned last month in the Wenatchee High School swimming pool have filed a $15 million claim against the Wenatchee School District.
Antonio Reyes’ parents say he couldn’t swim and they want to know why he was allowed in the pool, as well as how he drowned Nov. 17 with other people around.
The boy had been with classmates in a swimming class, and students in the next swimming class found him in the pool.
District Superintendent Brian Flones said Monday he couldn’t comment on possible pending litigation but adds the district “is taking this matter very seriously.”
The district says the class teacher, Ed Knaggs, remains on leave pending completion of an investigation.
