Norfolk State defeats South Carolina State 82-67

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Pendarvis Williams scored 20 points to lead Norfolk State to an 82-67 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory over South Carolina State on Monday night.

Williams got seven points in the first five minutes of the second half, when the Spartans (6-3, 2-0) took a 45-37 lead after trailing 30-29 at halftime.

Brandon Riley scored eight straight points for South Carolina State (4-5, 0-1) in less than a minute during a 13-3 run that put the Bulldogs on top 50-48 with 13:17 left.

Riley finished with 20 points to lead South Carolina State, his fourth consecutive game with 20 or more points.

A Bulldogs’ field goal drought lasting 5:01 enabled the Spartans to pull away, as they outscored South Carolina State 32-7 over the final 12 minutes. Kyle O’Quinn scored 11 of his 18 points in that stretch for Norfolk State.

O’Quinn finished with seven rebounds, ending his streak of seven double-doubles.
