Providence blows out cross-town rival Brown 80-49

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Vincent Council had 21 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds to lead Providence in an 80-49 blowout of Brown on Monday night.

LaDontae Henton, who is averaging 18 points and nine rebounds over the last three games, had exactly that for the Friars (6-2).

The Bears (4-6) were led by Andrew McCarthy’s 12 points and seven rebounds but shot just 29.1 percent from the field (16 of 51) while Providence shot 50 percent (33 of 66).

Brown scored just two points on 1-of-10 shooting in the opening 7:45, while the Friars got out to a 15-2 start behind Council, who finished the first half with 15 points.

Matt Sullivan, who scored 10 points, hit two jumpers to start a 17-14 Brown run heading into the final minutes of the half. But after a dunk and 3-pointer, the Friars went into the break leading 34-19.
