Charlotte never trails, defeats Radford 57-49

RADFORD, Va. (AP) — Chris Braswell scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and DeMario Mayfield had 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead Charlotte to a 57-49 nonconference victory over Radford on Tuesday night.

Charlotte (5-2) never trailed. The Highlanders got within a point, 15-14, with 10:40 left in the first half, but two free throws by Jamar Briscoe and two baskets by Javarris Barnett put the 49ers on top 21-14.

It was 31-22 at halftime, and Charlotte never led by fewer than five points in the second half.

Barnett and Pierria Henry each added seven points and five rebounds for Charlotte, and Henry made four steals.

Johnathan Edwards and Javonte Green each scored 11 points to lead Radford, which has lost six in a row.

The Highlanders shot just 29.0 percent (18 of 62) for the game, and were just 1 of 19 from 3-point range.
