Lipscomb surges past Tennessee-Martin 70-55

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Jordan Burgason scored 11 points, including two key baskets during a 12-0 first-half run, as Lipscomb defeated Tennessee-Martin 70-55 in a nonconference game Tuesday night.

Tennessee-Martin led 19-18 with 7:41 left until halftime before the Bisons (6-4) began their surge. After a pair of free throws by Marvin Williams gave Lipscomb a one-point lead, a 3-pointer by Burgason made it 23-19.

Malcolm Smith added a free throw and Burgason connected again from long range for a 27-19 lead. Damarius Smith then added a 3-pointer for an 11-point lead.

Lipscomb held double-digit leads for all but 29 seconds of the second half.

Jeremy Washington scored 12 points to lead the Skyhawks (2-8), who turned the ball over 22 times to Lipscomb’s 12. Myles Taylor added 11 points and Mike Liabo 10 for Tennessee-Martin.

Malcolm Smith scored 11 points for Lipscomb, and Williams and Deonte Alexander added 10 apiece.
